Baseball and softball teams from Greene County High School played in tournaments yesterday. Softball was at Bondurant-Farrar and baseball played in Boone.

Coach Tom Kennedy’s softball Rams went 0-2 on the day vs Mason City Newman and the host B-F Blue Jays. Newman is ranked number 9 in Class 1A by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and the Knights were 5-1 winners vs. the Rams, the eleventh straight victory to begin 2023. The loss was the third in nine games for Greene County.and the record on the season dropped to to 6-4 with a 10-0 loss to B-F. Greene County was outscored 15-1 in the two games combined.

Emma Hoyle allowed just one earned run vs. Newman Catholic. She struck out six, walked one, and allowed seven hits. The Rams had five errors, which proved costly. Hoyle hit a solo homer for the lone fun for the Rams and it was her second round-tripper this season. Alexa Peters singled twice with one base hit apiece for Emma Stream, Paige Teeples, and Chanlyn Cunningham. The Rams struck out 11 times and walked just once vs. winning pitcher Macy Keller.

Daniele Madsen started pitching and took the loss with Alaina Heard relieving her for the last two innings. the game ended after five by the 10-run rule. Three Greene County errors produced four unearned runs vs. Madsen and all six runs vs. Heard were earned in her varsity pitching debut. The Rams had just one hit, a single by Payton Kokenge.

Coach Kyle Stalder’s baseball Rams played their first game at the DMACC Campus field vs. ADM, losing 10-1 vs. the Bulldogs. Game two was against Boone at Memorial Park and resulted in a 16-1 loss. The Rams fall to 1-7 and were out scored 26-2 on Saturday. ADM scored in all but one inning out out hit the Rams six to four and Greene County pitchers walked eight batters and hit one. The Rams also committed four errors, leading to four unearned runs. for the Tigers, who improved to 9-4. All four hits for the Rams were singles collected by Isaac Carman, Brayden Roberts, Lane Fields, and Gavyn Winters. The lone run for the Rams scored on an infield hit by Roberts.

Boone dominated from the start vs. Greene County and led 14-0 after two innings to improve to 8-2. Noah Hinote singled for the only Greene County hit and he scored the lone run. Three different pitchers for the Rams combined to walk 10 and another four were hit with pitches. The Toreadors had six hits.

The Greene County teams host Nevada in Jefferson on Monday, June 5 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball and softball. KG98 will have the play-by-play of the varsity baseball game around 7:30 p.m.
