An electrical failure is believed to be the cause of a weekend fire in Jefferson that destroyed a garage and several vehicles. According to officials, the Jefferson Police Department and Jefferson Fire Department responded to the 200 block of S. Maple Street at approximately 6:21 p.m. Friday for a fire in an unattached garage. The blaze completely destroyed the structure, as well as two vehicles that had been parked inside. A third vehicle, which had been parked just outside the garage, was also damaged. Firefighters needed to return to the scene about four hours later after a nearby tree ignited from a residual hotspot. Jefferson Fire Chief Jack Williams indicated the fire appears to have started due to faulty electrical outlets in the garage.
