Shooting in western Jefferson County leaves 1 seriously injured, 1 jailed

A shooting in western Jefferson County left one man with life-threatening injuries and another man in jail.

The shooting happened about 4:45 p.m. Thursday in the 5000 block of Summerset Way in unincorporated Jefferson County, near Bessemer.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene to find a 21-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, said Lt. Joni Money. He was taken to UAB Hospital.

Money said it appears the two young men were in an argument when the suspect pulled a gun and fired multiple rounds. The suspect fled the scene before deputies arrived.

Star1 helicopter and tracking dogs were deployed to assist in the search.

During the search, detectives were able to make contact with the suspect via telephone and arranged for his surrender.

Quandarrious Roberts, also 21, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail short before 10 p.m. on a charge of attempted murder. Bond has not yet been set.
