Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office brings back retired Major to help with accreditation

(Hillsboro) The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is going the process to be reaccredited by CALEA the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. As this process of review continues this week, the sheriff’s office has brought back retired Major Gary Higginbotham to help out. Major Higginbotham handled the CALEA reaccreditation process for the past several years prior to retirement. He says it’s quite an experience to keep things up to speed.

Higginbotham says the subject of firearms and the ammunition used by the department was discussed. He says they use certain grain for bullets depending on a belistic research facility ran by the FBI in Huntsville, Alabama.

Higginbotham was contracted by the Sheriff’s Office to help out as the review process from CALEA will continue for next week. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has been certified by CALEA for several decades.
