FARGO, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown High School softball season came to a close on Saturday afternoon at the state tournament as the Blue Jays fell to West Fargo Sheyenne, 7-6.

Sheyenne jumped in front 3-0 after the first two innings of play and led 4-0 going into the bottom of the fifth. Makenna Nold drove in the first two runs for Jamestown in the fifth, doubling into the gap in left-center, scoring Jada Walter and Katie Falk.

The Mustangs increased their lead from 4-2 to 7-2 going into the bottom of the seventh. The seniors for Jamestown wouldn’t go done easily though as all four seniors reached base in the seventh inning. Ella Falk walked and after reaching second on a passed ball, scored off an RBI single from Rylee Joseph.

Joseph would score during the next at-bat as Jada Walter doubled, decreasing the Sheyenne lead to three. Walter scored on a K. Falk ground ball back up the middle, making it 7-5. With two outs, Sophia Bond drove in Falk, but the Jays would leave the tying run at third base and the winning run at first after a strikeout ended the game.

Nold was handed the loss in the circle, going 6.2 innings, allowing seven runs while striking out 12. Joseph and Bond each picked up two hits to lead the Blue Jays. K. Falk went 1-for-1 with three walks, an RBI, and two runs scored. Walter also scored two runs for Jamestown.

The Blue Jays round out the season with a sixth place finish at the state tournament, going 27-11 overall. After the game, senior K. Falk was named the 2023 NDHSCA POWERade Outstanding Senior Athlete.

Falk ended the year with a .432 batting average, .535 OBP, three home runs, 43 RBIs, and 51 runs scored. The senior also pitched 110 innings, striking out 121 batters with an ERA of 3.56. Her batting average, on-base percentage, and runs scored were all first on the Blue Jay roster.
