FARGO, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The #3 Jamestown High School softball team had its hopes for a state championship come to a close in the quarterfinals of the Class A tournament on Thursday afternoon as the Blue Jays fell, 5-2, to #2 Grand Forks Red River.

The Roughriders used a three-run first inning, batting around in the opening frame and taking an early 3-0 advantage. The score remained 3-0 until the top of the fifth when Jamestown would plate its two runs with Katie Falk scoring off a Torrie Mack RBI single and Makenna Nold crossing home following an Ella Falk bases loaded walk. Jamestown had the bases loaded with two outs in the fifth, but Rylee Joseph took a borderline called strike three on a 3-2 pitch to retire the side, keeping the Roughriders in front at 3-2.

GFRR would add insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth as freshman pitcher Ella Spiedel kept Jamestown off the scoreboard in the final two innings.  Spidel tossed all seven innings to get the win, allowing two hits, two earned runs, and striking out three.

K. Falk was handed the loss for Jamestown, going 2+ innings while allowing three earned runs off of six hits. Nold gave up two runs in relief while striking out six GFRR batters. At the plate, K. Falk went 1-for-2 with a single, a run scored, and a walk. Mack finished 1-for-3 with an RBI off her single in the fifth. Jamestown drew four walks, all in the final three innings.
