MARLBOROUGH, Mass. (jimmiepride.com)– The seventh-ranked Jimmie hockey team had its season end with a 4-3 overtime loss to No. 2 Ohio University in the quarterfinals of the ACHA Division 1 National Championships.

UJ finishes the year with a record of 22-11, the third-most wins in a season in program history.

The Bobcats’ Collin Felton was called for hooking at the 1:50 mark of the first, and Jamestown’s power play quickly took advantage. A minute into the penalty, Morgan Venne made it 1-0 on assists by Zane MacDonald and Jordan Baranesky.

Ohio tied the game with a John McLaughlin goal at 11:47, and it remained 1-1 until Jordon Kromm scored with 47 seconds left in the period for a 2-1 Jimmie lead. Alek Erichuk and Brenden Vulcano were credited with the assists.

McLaughlin made it 2-2 with his second of the game coming at 14:44 of the second, and the teams went into the intermission tied.

The Jimmie power play notched its second score at 8:18 of the third period. Brad Fortin and Baranesky set up Kromm for his second of the game and a 3-2 lead.

Trailing 3-2, the Bobcats pulled goaltender Justin Damon for an extra skater for the final 1:21 of regulation. As the clock’s final seconds ticked down, a scramble in front of the Jimmie net took Brandon Weare out of position and Felton put the puck in the back of the net with one-tenth of a second remaining. The goal was initially waived off by the referee, but after video review the goal was allowed to stand, and the game went to overtime.

At 4:52 of overtime, a floating wrist shot from the point by Sam Turner had just enough on it to get past Weare and send Ohio onto the semifinals.

Shots ended 44-36 in favor of the Bobcats. Weare made a career-high 40 saves for UJ while Damon had 33 stops for Ohio.
