JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — Hope For The Warriors will host its 17th Annual Jacksonville Run For The Warriors, First Mile and Block Party this Saturday, which is also Armed Forces Day.

The event will run from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The free, family-friendly event will take place outside Hope For The Warriors office, located at 3313 Henderson Dr. in Jacksonville.

New this year, the Jacksonville Run For The Warriors will feature the First Mile, a free 1-mile walk or run at 10:30 a.m. No registration is required. The goal of the First Mile is to provide the spirit and motivation to carry on, to take the first step — to embrace life and its challenges. It is a reminder of what our country’s warriors embark upon after leaving service, whether it’s finding a civilian job, reconnecting with family, or recovering from physical or mental trauma.

The Block Party will include family-friendly activities such as a bounce house, inflatable obstacle course, lawn games, face painting from Funtastic Faces, live music from Shiftin Gears, food from the Stanny Dogs food truck and coffee from Jireh Peruvian Coffee.

Hope For The Warriors was founded in 2006 on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, in North Carolina by military families that witnessed, firsthand, the effects of war on their families and community.
