A fourteen-year-old female was shot late Sunday night in Jacksonville and the investigation is ongoing, according to the Jacksonville Police Department.
The shooting happened around 7:49 p.m. Sunday, May 28, in the area of the Holiday City Mobile Home Park. Officers with the Jacksonville Police Department responded after receiving reports of gunfire.
Officers responding to the scene say that someone had shot several rounds into a home on Terry Lane. The fourteen-year-old was inside the residence at the time and was hit by the gunfire. She was transported to the Naval Hospital aboard Camp Lejeune with serious injuries. Officers say they secured the crime scene and several shell casings were located.
“At this time, this appears to be an isolated incident. This is an active and ongoing investigation. Detectives are working on several leads and are identifying suspects. We are asking anyone with knowledge of this incident to come forward," Lieutenant Christopher Funcke, Investigative Services Supervisor, said.
