Jacksonville Routt's Conrad Charpentier is The State Journal-Register's athlete of the week

Jacksonville Routt's Conrad Charpentier won The State Journal-Register's athlete of the week poll.

He won with 457 votes, followed by Chatham Glenwood's Parker Detmers (201) and Pleasant Plains' Bailey Leach (187).

The poll closed at noon on Friday. Information about the nominees is below. Havana's Abby Cowell was last week's winner.

Eli Carlson, Rochester, baseball

The sophomore pitcher handcuffed Springfield High with a four-hit shutout and Rochester blanked the Senators 4-0 to claim the Class 3A Rochester Regional championship on Saturday.  Carlson’s complete-game victory came on 87 pitches. He struck out six and walked one. 

Conrad Charpentier, Jacksonville Routt, baseball

The junior pitcher totaled 13 strikeouts in a 10-0 victory over Bluffs in six innings in the Class 1A Mount Sterling Brown County Sectional final on Saturday. He allowed just two hits with no walks. He also had two hits and one RBI.

Parker Detmers, Chatham Glenwood, baseball

The senior ace threw a complete game and struck out six in a 2-1 victory over host Sacred Heart-Griffin in the Class 3A regional final at Comstock Field on Saturday. He allowed four walks, one hit and one run.

Lyla Franke, Chatham Glenwood, girls soccer

The sophomore scored in the 12th minute in a 1-0 victory over Rochester in the Class 2A Normal West Sectional final on Friday to advance to Tuesday's home supersectional against two-time defending state champion Troy Triad. She punched the ball into the net on an assist from Makenna Yeager. It was the team's third straight sectional title.

Jackson Kern, Auburn, boys track and field

The senior defended his 1A state title in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles and nipped Champaign Judah Christian’s Daryl Okeke in 37.80 seconds. Kern also earned second in the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.33 just narrowly behind Catlin Salt Fork senior Nathan Kirby’s 14.28. He also anchored the third-place 4x400 relay in 3:25.52 alongside brothers Nathan and Jacob Barth as well as teammate Carter Hunley. 

Ryleigh Kiel, Chatham Glenwood, softball

The freshman hit for the cycle and drove in six runs to lead Chatham Glenwood past Taylorville 17-2 in four innings in the Taylorville Regional championship game on Friday. Kiel finished 4-for-4 with four runs scored. 

Mason Kooi, Lutheran, boys track and field

The senior standout and Nebraska commit won the Class 1A high jump for a second straight season with a height of 2.05 meters (6 feet, 9 inches) at the boys track and field state finals on Saturday. He was also third and fourth in the long jump and triple jump, respectively.

Bailey Leach, Pleasant Plains, girls soccer

The freshman scored in the 16th minute in a 1-0 victory over Freeburg in the Class 1A Columbia Supersectional on Tuesday to earn the team's first trip to the state tournament since 2009 when they finished fourth. Leach struck a well-placed shot from inside 6 yards that was high enough to be out of the reach of Freeburg junior goalie Allysa Wolf.

Mia Volpert, Springfield High, softball

The sophomore ace threw a two-hit shutout and Springfield High scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Rochester 2-0 in the Class 3A Rochester Regional championship game on Friday. Volpert was dominant in her outing as she struck out 10 and walked none. She also scored a run.

Noah Williams/David Lu, Springfield High, boys tennis

The duo earned fourth place in the state finals at Palatine High School over the weekend. The pair entered the meet undefeated and won their quarterfinal match on Friday by beating 5-8 seed Aiden Belsley and Blake Shoemaker of Morton 6-3, 6-1. They dropped to Jake Goldstein and Mark Tismensky of Chicago Latin 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals before falling to Chicago Latin’s Kiyan Alsikafi and Zuhair Alsikafi 6-3, 7-5 in the third-place match. The Senators tied for fifth place as a team.
