Tiphne Hollis' family pushes for justice 13 years later

Mayor Lenny Curry signed a proclamation in 2019, declaring the week of March 20th, Tiphne Hollis week.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It’s been 13 years and the family of a 16-year-old shot in a drive by in Mixon Town is pleading for justice.

Tiphne Hollis was young and full of life according to her family and they never imagined she’d be gone so soon.

The family is remembering Tiphne as the day she was shot 13 years ago, March 20th, is approaching. She was in the car with friends when the shots were fired. Her family believes it was a case of mistaken identity.

“She had a smile that would just light up Mt. Everest,” said Mary Peoples.

Mayor Lenny Curry signed a proclamation in 2019, declaring the week of March 20th, Tiphne Hollis week.

“It meant a lot to us and we thank God for the mayor doing that and the purpose was behind it to let you know Tiphne Hollis was in the room and she was in the place… we are purposely working to get the area she was killed to have her name put there because it’s rightful,” said Peoples.

This year, TDH Academy, a school named in Tiphne’s honor will host themed days next week. They’ll end with a justice march.

“It’s devastating to know the killer is still out there and hasn’t been brought to justice as of yet,” said Peoples

Although it’s been 13 years, the family believes justice will soon come.

There are themed days next week, beginning with ‘Around Tiphne’s World’ this Tuesday because Tiphne liked to travel.
