Privateer 4x100 Squad Finishes Oh-So-Close to Qualifying for NCAA Championships at NCAA East Regional

OFFICIAL RESULTS: Men's 4x100 | Men's 400H Quarterfinals | DAY ONE RECAP

JACKSONVILLE – The University of New Orleans 4x100 squad came oh-so-close but fell one hundredth of a second shy of qualifying for a shot at the National Championship on Friday night in Jacksonville at the NCAA East Regional.

With strong swirling winds creating suboptimal running conditions, Elliott Cummings, Ellis Cummings, Jayden Sloan, and Mason Melancon ran their cleanest relay of the season and finished their race in 39.99 – just behind the Alabama Crimson Tide's 39.98 for the final non automatic qualifying spot.

New Orleans finished the 4x100 with a better time than: Indiana State, Northwestern State, Howard, Pittsburgh, Kentucky, Indiana, North Carolina A&T, and Mississippi State.

Sloan also became the first Privateer since Constant Pretorius (2014) to run in an NCAA 400-meter hurdles quarterfinal on Friday evening at Hodges Stadium. Running out of lane one, Sloan finished 20th overall with a time of 52.64. He finished ahead of Harry Barton from Youngstown State, Ondrej Vesley of Harvard, Kendel Hammock of Michigan State, and Bryce Anthony out of Davidson.

HEAD COACH BROCK MOREAUX
"Our men's 4x100 put it all out there today. They executed perfectly and fell a little short. I've said it all year, but I cannot express it enough, I am so proud of what this group was able to accomplish this year. They had big shoes to fill and faced every challenge head-on with a winning mindset.
"We wouldn't be the team we are without the leadership of Mason and Elliott and we are going to miss them dearly next year."
