HARRISBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Pennsylvania man will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars after strangling, sexually assaulting, and beating a woman with a flashlight, Attorney General Michelle Henry announced.

Ian Nakonechni, 36, of Greene County, who has at least four prior domestic violence convictions against him, was sentenced to 60 to 120 years in prison for his latest conviction — the 2022 sexual assault and attack of a woman in Jackson Township.

The Office of Attorney General cited those prior convictions when requesting a “significant” prison term for Nakonechni from the court. He will also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

According to charges filed by state police regarding the Feb. 2022 attack, Nakonechni sexually assaulted the victim, strangled her and beat her with a pipe and flashlight.

“This defendant has shown a blatant and cruel disregard for the wellbeing of his partners, and this sentence puts a stop to his reign of domestic violence,” Attorney General Henry said. “These crimes often happen in the shadows and can be very challenging for police and prosecutors, but the work of law enforcement in this case essentially ensures this defendant will never again be part of a free society where he has proven to be violent and dangerous.”

In October 2023, a jury convicted Nakonechni of eight felonies and three misdemeanors including aggravated assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and strangulation.

Office of Attorney General Senior Deputy Attorney General Alicia Werner prosecuted the case.
