Mrs. Myra S. Shiver, age 82, of Jackson County, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023, at her home in Greenwood. Myra was born on December 17, 1940, in Jackson County to I.H. and Elmira (Waldroff) Stone and had lived in Jackson County all her life. She was a retired postmaster with the United States Postal Service for several years. Myra enjoyed fishing, watching old movies, shopping, and working in her flower garden. Most of all, she truly loved her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, I.H. and Elmira (Waldroff) Stone; grandson, Lance Brock; two brothers, John and I. H. Stone; and two sisters, Violet Becton and Ann Dykes. Survivors include her husband, John Mark Shiver of Greenwood, Florida; four sons, Mark Branch and wife, Rhonda, of the Shady Grove Community, Bill Branch and wife, Jenine, of Tallahassee, Florida, John Mark Shiver, Jr. and wife, Gaylon, of Tallahassee, Florida, and Douglas Wade Shiver and fiancé, Emily, of Greenwood, Florida; two daughters, Angie Smith of Clarksville, Florida, and Christy Bloechl and husband, Jeff, of Graceville, Florida; two sisters, Mary Ella Jessen of Lake City, Florida, and Patsy Sneads of Sneads, Florida; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild on the way. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. (CDT) at Shady Grove Methodist Church with Reverend Allan Fergerson officiating. Interment will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. All arrangements are under the direction of Marlon Peavy at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown, Florida.

On Thursday, August 17, William Morris walked away from his assigned work crew while cutting grass at the Holmes County High School in Bonifay. After a multi-department search throughout the night using air support and K9 units, Morris was captured in Jackson County.
