Tigers roll over ‘Cats Brian Smith Wed, 03/27/2024 - 8:50 am Some days you have balance. Others have you relying on one big thing to get you through. Sometimes it’s a little bit of both. Jacksboro’s varsity baseball team had the latter last Tuesday, March 19 in its game with Henrietta. The Tigers and Bearcats locked horns for six innings but a big sixrun Jacksboro third would prove the difference in a much closer than it looked 7-1 victory. The Tigers remained perfect in the early going of District 7-3A at 3-0 (14-31 overall). Jacksboro coach Blake Belcher said it took a little balance to get out with a win. “Kyler (Swan) had a hot night at the plate, getting that leadoff double to get the rally going and then getting a single to bring in those last two runs in the inning,” Belcher said. “Getting that game on the mound from (Jackson) McComis was huge as well.” McComis, who struck out seven in the complete game win, admitted everything was on point for him. The Tigers had just one baserunner over the first two innings, McComis drawing a two-out walk in the first. Henrietta had two runners get on board in the second inning via a single and a walk. Both were thrown out on throws from Swan. Swan opened the decisive inning with a double into the left center field gap. Brayden Rockey laid down a nifty bunt which allowed him to get to first on the fielder’s choice, putting runners at the corners. A walk to Kaleem Howard loaded the sacks. With one gone, a second baseman’s error got the Purple on the board and Mc-Comis aboard. Another free pass, this one to Wyatt Gavit scored Rockey for a 2-0 lead. Cannon Valenzuela’s single through the box doubled the lead to 4-0. Tyler Mitchell’s infield single once again loaded the bases. Swancamethrough with his second hit of the inning, a bloop single into shallow center which plated Gavit and Valenzuela. Rockey’s infield single would load the bases but to no avail. The Bearcats got on the board with two hits and an error in the fourth. The Tigers got the run back in the fifth, Tyler Mitchell scoring after a walk.
