JPD arrests one following stand-off Brian Smith Wed, 03/27/2024 - 8:50 am Jacksboro officers arrested one man Wednesday, after a barricaded gunman incident in the 500 block of W. College. First responders from Jacksboro Police Department, Jack County Sheriff’s Office, Jacksboro Fire Department and Faith Community Hospital EMS responded Wednesday, March 20 to a possible overdose. Officers arrived to find the doors locked and doors barricaded. Officers forced their way in and were met by a male subject with a gun who then barricaded himself in a water heater closet. JPD Chief Bryan Corb stated the surrounding streets around the residence were closed as a precautionary measure while officers worked to resolve the situation. At about 2:12 p.m. officers got the subject to put down the gun and exit the closet. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth on an emergency detention order for mental health issues. “We could have filed charges but under the circumstances, we found it better for him to get the mental health treatment and care he needed,” Corb said. “In jail he’s not getting the mental health care he needs and this way in a (mental health) facility he will be.”
