Hillsborough County, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating a highway shooting that occurred early Monday morning on westbound Interstate 4 near Milepost 14. According to reports, the incident took place around 6:01 AM.

The victim, a 28-year-old man from Lakeland, was driving a 2017 Toyota Corolla when his vehicle was struck by a bullet. FHP troopers responded to the scene and found a single bullet that had entered the engine compartment of the car. Fortunately, the driver was not injured.

The victim told FHP troopers that a light-skinned man driving an older model Dodge Ram with yellow, weathered headlights and an unknown Florida tag had been tailgating him. The suspect then pulled alongside the victim’s vehicle and fired a round from a full-size semi-automatic handgun before speeding away. The suspect took a nearby exit and left the interstate.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding this incident or the suspect to contact the Florida Highway Patrol by dialing *FHP (*347) or Crime Stoppers at **TIPS. The investigation is ongoing, and FHP is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the driver of the Dodge Ram.
