Pinellas County, FL – According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a fatal multi-vehicle crash occurred early this morning at 34th Street North, resulting in the death of one occupant and several others injured.

The incident began around 2:54 AM on September 28, 2024, when an FHP Trooper observed a Toyota Camry driving over a median southbound on US-19 near Seville Boulevard. When the Trooper attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled, leading to a high-speed chase that ended in a fatal collision.

The Camry continued southbound, and as it approached Park Boulevard, the Trooper attempted a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle. However, the driver was able to regain control and continued driving. The pursuit reached 34th Street North near the intersection of 38th Avenue North, where a tractor-trailer was making a turn. In an attempt to avoid the truck, the Camry swerved into the northbound lanes and collided with two vehicles, a box truck and a Toyota Tundra, which were stopped at a red light.

One occupant of the Camry sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where they later died. The identities of the four occupants of the Camry, all of whom were from St. Petersburg and ranged in age from 18 to 20, are still under investigation as Troopers work to determine who was driving at the time of the crash. None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.

Drivers of the other vehicles involved, a 33-year-old man from Davenport and a 46-year-old St. Petersburg man, were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. A 73-year-old passenger in the Toyota Tundra, also from St. Petersburg, was unharmed.

As the investigation continues, no charges have been filed at this time.
