Hillsborough County, FL – A collision on I-75 in Hillsborough County resulted in injuries to two drivers late Thursday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

The crash occurred at approximately 11:17 AM in the southbound lanes of I-75 near State Road 60. A 31-year-old man from Riverview, driving a BMW X3, was traveling in the center lane when he slowed down near the scene of an earlier tractor-trailer accident. According to FHP, the driver was using FaceTime with his spouse and appeared to be attempting to take pictures or videos of the crash site.

A Dodge Caliber, driven by a 67-year-old woman from Melbourne Beach, was traveling behind the BMW and was unable to stop in time, resulting in a rear-end collision with the BMW. The inside lane had already been closed due to the earlier crash.

Both drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. The incident remains under investigation by FHP.

    Don’t Be a “Lookie Loo”

This incident serves as a reminder: do not let curiosity lead to dangerous behavior on the road. Drivers who slow down or stop to observe crash scenes – often referred to as “lookie loos” – contribute to further accidents and delays. You should never be on your phone while driving, as distracted driving poses significant risks to yourself and others. Stay alert, keep your eyes on the road, and avoid distractions to ensure everyone's safety.

    Key Information:

    • The crash occurred on I-75 southbound near SR-60 at around 11:17 AM.
    • A BMW X3 slowed to take pictures of an earlier crash while on FaceTime, leading to a rear-end collision with a Dodge Caliber.
    • Both drivers were injured and transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
    • The incident caused additional delays due to lane closures already in place from the earlier accident.
