The first trailer for a new film starring Cillian Murphy has dropped . Viewers are calling the moody drama “outstanding.”

The Irish Oscar-winner stars in Small Things Like These , based on the bestselling short novel of the same name by Irish novelist, Claire Keegan.

In the trailer , viewers get a first look at Murphy as Bill Furlong - a dad and coal merchant living in a rural Irish village with his family.

Murphy's character makes a startling discovery about his town's local convent, and grapples with his conscience as he confronts truths about his town and the Catholic Church. The story is set in 1985, and Murphy reverts to his natural accent for the role.

He appears alongside Game of Thrones star, Michelle Fairley, Kin actor Clare Dunne and Emily Watson, who plays Sister Mary, the corrupt Mother superior of the local convent.

The trailer has generated excitement for the movie, which received high-acclaim at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it debuted last February. It currently has an 83 per cent critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film is scheduled for release on November 8.
