The McDonald's Big Mac, a close second to the chain's iconic French fries in terms of popularity, is a beloved choice for many , and it's not hard to understand why.

Made up of two 100 per cent British and Irish beef patties nestled between three layers of sesame seed bun, the burger is garnished with cheese, finely chopped onion, shredded lettuce, pickles, and the legendary secret Big Mac sauce.

While this unique condiment has captivated countless fast-food enthusiasts, only a few are aware of its composition. However, a former employee of the fast-food behemoth has now revealed the secret recipe by sharing his imitation version on TikTok.

In a video posted on his account , ex-McDonald's corporate chef Mike Haracz disclosed the surprising list of ingredients that come together to form the famous burger sauce, reports the Express .

Interestingly, the video showed that despite its signature pink colour, there's no ketchup in the tangy condiment. Instead, the mayonnaise-based sauce gets its distinctive flavour from a combination of Dusseldorf mustard and white wine vinegar.

Mike revealed that the orange tint comes from a small quantity of paprika, which acts as both a colouring agent and a flavour enhancer. Aside from mustard, vinegar, and paprika, the remaining ingredients are fairly standard.

The Big Mac sauce is crafted from a blend of mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, onion powder, granulated garlic, and white pepper. According to Mike, these ingredients should be mixed together and left to sit for at least half an hour. This will create a thick sauce that is similar to the one used in McDonald's restaurants.

The former employee maintains that this is the closest you can get to the real recipe. Given the ingredients listed on the McDonald's website, this seems likely. Interestingly, there are no tomato-based products like ketchup included in the list. Instead, a variety of stabilisers, preservatives, and spices are used.

These can be left out when making the sauce at home. While the homemade version won't last as long, it's a great option for those wanting to make a McDonald's-style meal without the cost or calories.
