A police department in California has reportedly spent at least $140,000 on purchasing and customizing a Tesla Cybertruck.

According to Forbes, the Irvine Police Department bought the most expensive model of the Cybertruck, costing $99,990. They then paid an additional $20,000 for the "Foundation Series" package, which includes "premium accessories" such as laser-etched Foundation Series badges and a glass roof sunshade.

According to public records, another invoice showed that the police department paid a company that offers custom Tesla modifications, $20,000 to add "law enforcement equipment" to its Cybertruck. This included car lighting, radios, and exterior graphics, it wrote.

Sergeant Karie Davies of the force defended their decision to purchase the luxury vehicle , saying that it was the only model available at the time. She added that their new Cybertruck would be used as a publicity tool for the department's Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program, rather than for active patrolling.

The Tesla Cybertruck is designed to withstand tough collisions, with its thick, stainless steel exterior. Musk once referred to the vehicle as “apocalypse-proof” and “bulletproof.”

However, several tests have confirmed that this may not be the case. Youtube channel JerryRigEverything showed that larger weapons can cause serious damage to the vehicle's exterior. There have also been concerns about the Cybertruck’s offroading ability, as it struggles driving in snow, on beaches and climbing dirt hills.
