Nebraska school shooting: Boy, 15, in critical condition after being shot in stomach

A suspect has been nabbed following a shooting incident that left a teenager with a gunshot wound to the abdomen at an Omaha, Nebraska high school today.

The 15 year old victim is fighting for life in hospital, coming just after the United States was shaken by a deadly school shooting in Georgia which claimed four lives and injured nine others.

After fleeing Northwest High School, the perpetrator was later apprehended, as anxious parents congregated outside the educational facility.

Omaha Police Department provided an update at 1.06pm local time (2.06pm ET), announcing on X: "An individual believed to be the suspect in the shooting has been taken into custody. Police will remain in the area for follow up to the investigation and for reunification with parents."

They assured the public, "There is no threat to the community."

In the wake of the incident, students are being escorted to the school's football stadium to rejoin their families, with all classes called off.

"The school is officially in a hold and will begin moving students to the football stadium for reunification," the police statement continued.

"Students who ride buses will be transported from campus first. Once that is complete, students who do not ride the bus each day will be released to families who are on site. Students who walk or drive themselves to school each day will then be released."

Lockdowns were also implemented at Marian High School and Roncalli Catholic High School in the vicinity.
