Half of students get to school by car
Nearly half of Morton East students get here by car. (That’s nearly 1,700 car rides!) According to ChatGPT, interestingly, Illinois has driving restrictions for newly licensed teens. Newly licensed teens have limits on how many passengers they can have and how late they can drive at night. Surprisingly, in July 2026, only about 36.5% of teens ages 16–19 were employed, meaning many teens may still depend on other people or transportation to get around. In a random survey of 58 Morton East students, 24 students (41.4%) said their transportation to Morton East is driving a car. Twenty students (34.5%) said they walk to school, and 6 students (10.3%) said they ride with friends.

Metra Board Ends Chair Rotation, Names Romayne Brown to Lead Again
Metra’s board voted 8-3 to end a 14-year-old policy rotating its chairmanship between Cook County and the collar counties, then unanimously elected former chair Romayne Brown of Dolton to lead the railroad again. The decisions give Metra a new leadership structure as regional transit governance shifts under the Northern Illinois Transit Authority, while leaving the board to balance local representation with systemwide coordination.
