Wildwood expands fireworks contract to include New Year’s display
Fireworks are headed for Wildwood both for the city’s annual Fourth of July display and an added display for New Year’s night. At a special meeting Monday, commissioners approved a three-year $138,000 contract with Zambelli Fireworks to provide a 20-minute display on July 3 this year and a seven-minute display for New Year’s, possibly at midnight. The contract can be renewed for an additional two years.

Inverness pulled off a successful St. Patrick’s Day Parade with a little quick thinking from city officials and a little luck of the Irish Sunday. One of the many floats in the St. Patrick's Day parade on Sunday afternoon features a special appearance of the famous Sunny Cooter in downtown Inverness. The parade was originally scheduled for Saturday but city officials quickly changed the date to Sunday to accommodate the weather forecast. After the parade, there were more festivities, including live music in the city's entertainment district. The entertainment district will also remain active downtown. The entertainment district allows patrons to buy beer or wine in one business and carry their drinks with them as they walk through the downtown and visit other establishments.

A police officer was in the parking lot of Applebee’s restaurant on Bichara Boulevard in The Villages at 1:45 a.m. Sunday when he used radar to catch a vehicle traveling at 60 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.
