What’s the best way to make a pot of prize-winning chili?
The town of Interlachen aims to find out Saturday when the town hosts its inaugural Chili Cook Off from noon to 4 p.m.
The event will be at the Caboose, 312 Atlantic Ave. in Interlachen and the special events committee states that local “celebrity judges” will decide the winning dishes out of 12 entries.
While the deadline to enter a dish in the contest may have passed, the event — which includes a bounce house for the kids, corn hole and live music — is free to attend, while donations for chili-tasting will go to the dish entrants.
Event organizers are excited about the event.
“We didn’t even make any categories with the cook off because we didn’t know how many people we would have,” said Joni Conner, the special events committee chairwoman.
Entries will be judged on flavor, texture and overall impression.
Prizes will be awarded for first place, $125; second, $75; and third, $50. Free prizes will also be given away.
“We have 30 door prizes that will be given out,” Conner said.
One of the highlights of the day will include live music by Sam Wimberly’s B Sharp Band. Guests can also feast on hot dogs, ice cream and snow cones, while playing corn hole and kids can be entertained in a bounce house.
For details, call Joni Conner at 954-812-8735.
“Chili will be available for a donation with money going back to the entrant,” Conner said. “We hope this will be an event of many to come. We are hoping for a food truck day, a festival and more concerts at the caboose.”
