When you add personal touches to a home, you’ll be amazed at how much the space transforms . This is especially true of old or unconventional homes. And you can’t get much more unconventional than where Grymm Dupp chose to live. In the town of Horton, Michigan, this man discovered a gem — a church that was built in 1906, making it 118 years old. Needless to say, Grymm signed up to do quite a few renovations when he purchased it.

For example, one of the bathrooms had carpeted floors, a design choice that has only become more and more disliked over the years. When Grymm pulled up the old carpet, he was no doubt hopeful he’d discover vintage flooring he’d love. What he didn’t expect, however, was to discover that the church has a trapdoor. With far more bravery than most of us, the man opened it up… see the result in the video below!

Man Investigates a Hidden Trapdoor in the 118-Year-Old Church He’s Making His Home

If Grymm had any qualms about opening up the trapdoor alone, it certainly didn’t stop him from doing it anyway. Not even the layers of webs could deter him from trying to get a closer look at this hidden passage. Although he wasn’t able to get the clearest view at the moment, it’s so cool that he managed to find this hidden spot!

As much of a bummer it is that Grymm wasn’t able to explore the area a bit more, he’s likely taking things in stride. Turns out, renovating an old church to become a home takes time, so he’s got quite a bit of work to do. But that won’t stop people from speculating about the origin of this trapdoor.

While some people find the space to be terrifying, others find it fascinating. It was also pointed out that, because it seems there is PVC piping down there, it could be a more recent addition. Either way, we wonder if Grymm will ever give us a full tour of the spooky space…
