Playoff time!: Players that can make an impact for Coastal Bend high school softball teams

As the high school softball playoffs begin this week, here is a look at some players that will have an impact for squads as they begin their quest for a trip to Austin.

We chose one player from each of the area's playoff teams from Class 5A through Class 2A. If a team is not listed, we could not find statistics on the team, or we have not received them at any point this season.

Class 5A

Emilee Holmes, Veterans Memorial

The sophomore leads the team in hitting and has become a key bat in the Eagles deep lineup.

Madison Mauricio, Gregory-Portland

The two-way player for the Ladycats is hitting .471 this season and is 8-5 in the circle.

Kaeleigh Mendez, Carroll

The power-hitting shortstop has seven home runs this season and is hitting .442.

Class 4A

Brooke Castillo, Alice

The Coyotes two-way star was among the area leaders in strikeouts and innings pitched this season.

Kalia Flaherty, Rockport-Fulton

Flaherty has hit around .500 all season and will be a key for the Pirates offense.

Megan Geyer, Calallen

Geyer has played a lot of postseason softball in her career and has 25 RBIs and 31 runs this season.

Ayla Gonzales, Bishop

Gonzales hit .549 during the regular season with 14 doubles and a team-best 44 RBIs,

Madison Gummelt, Tuloso-Midway

The Cherokee pitcher won 20 games this season and had more than 200 strikeouts.

Aylah Medrano, Sinton

Medrano has led the Pirates in hitting through much of the season.

Kylee Ward, Ingleside

Ward won 17 games during the regular season and had 139 strikeouts.

Class 3A

Josette Aparacio, Taft

Among the area leaders in strikeouts this season.

Aria Bray, Odem

Hit better than .360 this season with 14 RBIs through 30 games.

Taygen DeLaGarza, London

The versatile DeLaGarza is hitting .514 this season with 26 RBIs, and is 5-1 as a pitcher.

Alyssa Herrera, Mathis

Hitting better than .420 this season and has nine doubles and three triples.

Dalisa Luera, San Diego

Hit .544 in the regular season with 25 RBIs and six home runs.

Taylor Reyes, Santa Gertrudis Academy

Part of a stellar Lions lineup that was among the area leaders in RBIs this season.

Kadence Trevino, Hebbronville

Won 16 games this season and more than 160 strikeouts.

Class 2A/Private Schools

Sarah Alvarado and Alyson Gomez, Three Rivers

The Bulldogs pitching duo has combined for 214 strikeouts this season.

Sidney Castillo, Woodsboro

The stellar hurler struck out 19 in an extra-inning win against Three Rivers to earn the top seed from 31-2A. Had more than 260 strikeouts this season.

Ja’Zae-Lyne Lewis, Refugio

Among the area leaders in stolen bases, walks, triples and runs.

Skyler Ramos, Riviera

Ramos had an ERA of 0.91 and had 254 strikeouts, plus hit a scorching .573 this season.

Perla Rodriguez, IWA

Hit better than .59 this season with 14 doubles.
