Ingleside’s McGrath runner-up at Mathis meet
Ingleside’s Logan McGrath captured second place in the 275-pound weight class at the Mathis Invitational Powerlifting Meet on Feb. 17. McGrath had a total of 1,440 pounds with a 585 squat, 385 bench press, and 470 deadlift. Alice’s Alex Botello was first with a composite of 1,500. The Mustangs’ Anthonie Cordova was fourth in the 165 weight class with a total of 1,000. Ingleside’s Carson Lopez finished fifth in the 148 weight class with 860 and teammate Emilio Martinez was fifth in the 220 weight class with 1,010. The Mustangs finished 11th out of 12 teams with nine points. In the girls competition, Ingleside’s Adalina Escobar was third in the 220 weight class with a total of 765. She had a squat of 340, bench press of 170, and deadlift of 255. In the 132 weight class, the Lady Mustangs’ Lilly Cordova placed fourth with a composite of 565 and teammate Cleo Adame followed in fifth with a total of 530. Ingleside’s Anneliese Torres was fifth in the 123 weight class with a 635. The Lady Mustangs were 10th out of 15 teams in the standings with seven points.

AP’s Lara wins at Kingsville meet
Aransas Pass’ Zyanya Lara won the 242-plus weight class at the 5th Brahma Strong Powerlifting Meet in Kingsville on Feb. 15. Lara had a squat of 255, bench press of 180, and deadlift of 260 for a total of 695. Aransas Pass’ Azenth Trevino and Izabell Padilla were runnersup in their unequipped divisions. Trevino lifted a composite of 445 in the 132 weight class and Padilla had a total of 650 in the 148 weight class. The Lady Panthers’ Audisey Sanchez was third in the 114 unequipped weight class with a total of 520. Teammates Analise Davis (510) and Allison Scott (475) followed in fourth and fifth, respectively. Six Aransas Pass lifters – Sanchez, Davis, Padilla, Scott, Lara, Victoriana Soto – qualified for the regional meet on Feb. 28-29 in Edinburg.
Public invited to border security conference
The American Legion’s 3rd Division National Security Commi_ee Chairman Jerome Iltis has partnered with St. Mary’s University Law School Professor Dr. Jeffrey Addico_ to organize a border security conference. The free one-day conference will be held Saturday, March 2, in Rosenberg. The public is invited. The keynote speaker will be Senator Ted Cruz. St. Mary’s University Warrior Defense Project and The American Legion are co-hosting the nonpartisan event. Lady Panthers advance to regional tournament
The Aransas Pass Lady Panthers held off the San Diego Lady Vaqueros to take a 52-49 Class 3A regional quarterfinal victory on Feb. 20 at Corpus Christi King High School. A putback by Jocelyn Cole secured the victory for the Lady Panthers, who improved to 22-15 on the season and advanced to face San Antonio Cole in the semifinals of the Region IV Tournament in Seguin. Aransas Pass led 30-20 at halftime before the Lady Vaqueros rallied to take a 40-39 advantage entering the fourth quarter. Cole finished with 18 points, including one 3-pointer. Melanie Castillo added 11 points and three 3-pointers. Elora Pierre tossed in six points while Aubree Leal, Miranda Flores, and Raina Scott each finished with three. Lady Panthers edge Lyford Jocelyn Cole poured in 21 points to lead the Aransas Pass Lady Panthers to a 42-39 Class 3A area playoff win over the Lyford Lady Bulldogs on Feb. 15 at Corpus Christi King High School. Mustangs see season end in bi-district loss
The Ingleside Mustangs saw their basketball season come to an end on Feb. 20 in Falls City in a 6043 Class 4A bi-district playoff loss to the Carrizo Springs Wildcats. The Mustangs finished with a 17-12 record. J.C. Smith topped Ingleside with 14 points, including three 3-pointers. Aidan Jakobsohn added 11 points and one 3-pointer. Texas General Land Office Commissioner Dawn Buckingham M.D. announced that the GLO is currently accepting admissions for the 28th Annual Treasures of the Texas Coast Children’s Art Contest. This contest is facilitated through the Texas General Land Office’s (GLO) Adopt-ABeach Program. ‘Honking Tree’ Treasured Piece of Local History
Heading west on State Highway 361, 2.3 miles from the Ingleside H-E-B, you will find the “Honking Tree” – as it’s become known locally - in between railroad tracks, the only tree in the median strip between Ingleside and Gregory. The Aransas Pass Panthers were eliminated from the postseason on Feb. 20 in a 6855 loss to the Falfurrias Jerseys in a Class 3A bi-district playoff game in Kingsville. The Panthers finished the season with an 18-18 record. Aransas Pass hung close for one quarter before Falfurrias outscored the Panthers 21-11 in the second quarter to take a 3522 lead into halftime. The Ingleside Lady Mustangs fell 5-2 to the Rockport-Fulton Lady Pirates in a District 29-4A soccer match on Feb. 2o in Ingleside. Mustangs win baseball opener 7-2
The Ingleside Mustangs scored five times in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 7-2 season-opening baseball win over the Kingsville Brahmas on Feb. 19 in Ingleside. Kingsville scored two runs in the first, but the Mustangs answered with single runs in the first and second innings to tie the game at 2-all. Ingleside had four hits in the game.
