The Indianola City Council discussed parking on the downtown square during their work session Monday, which included both short-term and long-term solutions. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the city is committed to supporting local businesses on the square, and in the short-term will have signs on the square and raise awareness about the need for open spots on the square. Reeves said the potential long-term options involve a parking time-limit enforcement.

“It’s always a balance between being a welcoming and friendly community, to making it so we can enforce the laws we put on the books. Supreme Court laws have changed so we can’t easily enforce those things without either cameras or other forms of enforcement.”

Reeves also said long-term plans include upgrading the amount of parking spots with the new City Hall/Public Safety building and extra green space on the east side of the square.
