The Jefferson Highway Association hosted a special event in Indianola Monday, as the “Sociability Caravan” that travels through historic areas of the Jefferson Highway traveled through Indianola. The Jefferson Highway began in Iowa in the early 1910’s as the first north/south highway in the country that linked Canada to Louisiana.

A special dedication of historic signage took place in front of the former Hotel Warren at 113 E Salem, with Mayor Stephanie Erickson and Indianola Chamber President and CEO Amanda Zwanziger presenting, along with board members from the Jefferson Highway Association.

Additional signage purchased by the Warren County Historic Preservation Commission include recognition for three locations including Hotel Warren, as well as the Tourist Camp, located between Simpson’s Barker and Wallace Hall on Buxton St., and the Hastie Gas Station, six miles north of Indianola on the west side of Hwy 65/69.
