INDIANAPOLIS – A man arrested in a quadruple shooting on the northeast side of Indianapolis may face stiffer charges after a victim in that shooting has died.
Jordan Lamont Chatman, 25, was one of four people found shot in the 4000 block of Arborcrest Drive on July 13, 2021.
Indianapolis Metropolitan police arrived shortly after 1 a.m. at the location to find all four had been critically wounded.
Investigators later said a dispute inside a home erupted into a “gunfight” in the street that resulted in the injuries. Two cars were also shot up during the incident. Recovered from the scene were three cellphones, three 9mm handguns and more than two dozen shell casings scatter throughout the scene.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office revealed that Chatman died on Sunday—nearly two years after he was injured. Indianapolis Police and Fire were called at about 5 a.m. to an address on East 40th Street where Chatman lived with a caregiver. She told first responders Chatman was “not breathing or moving” and that he was paralyzed from the shoulders down “from (prior) gunshot wounds to his neck and shoulders.”
Back in March 29-year-old Kamari Driver was arrested and charged in the Arborcrest Drive shooting. Among Driver’s alleged victims is Chatman. Driver is in the Marion County Jail awaiting trial on charges of aggravated battery and carrying a handgun without a license.
Chatman is slated for an autopsy. If his death is found to be directly related to his two-year-old gunshot wounds, it’s possible Driver will face more serious charges.
