The greatest spectacle in racing returns for another 200 laps and 500 miles, signaling the unofficial start of summer.

Marcus Ericcson will attempt a repeat following his win in 2022. Only five drivers — Helio Castroneves (2001, 2002), Al Unser (1970, 1971), Bill Vukovich (1953, 1954), Mauri Rose (1947, 1948) and Wilbur Shaw (1939, 1940) have won the race in back-to-back years.

Alex Palou won the pole in qualifying, becoming the first Spanish driver to do so. Palou also set a qualifying record with an average four-lap speed of 234.217 mph, which could provide a big boost to his chances of securing his first Indy 500 win.

Graham Rahal was initially bumped from the grid via Jack Harvey's last attempt, but he made his way into the race as an injury replacement for Stefan Wilson, who suffered a vetebra fracture in a crash with Katherine Legge during practice

Sunday is a huge day in auto racing. Formula 1 gets it started with the Monaco Grand Prix, followed by the Indy 500 and then the nightcap, NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600. Fans will get to see nearly 15 hours of live racing.
