INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after two people were shot on the north side of Indy.
According to IMPD, they responded to a report of a person shot at the 4100 block of Broadway St. just after midnight. Police found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds.
“Both individuals were transported to area hospitals, the male in critical condition and the female in stable condition,” said IMPD Lt. Shane Foley.
Police believe someone shot at the victims from outside the home.
“We are asking for anybody who has cameras, anybody who saw anything around midnight to look at those cameras,” Foley said. “And if you see anything suspicious, anything that stands out, please contact the IMPD Aggravated Assault Office at (317) 327-3475. Or they can call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.”
Police records show IMPD has responded to the address of the shooting more than a dozen times in the past few years. The most recent instance was for a theft in progress about a year ago. While there’s no way to know if any of that is related to the Wednesday morning shooting, it will presumably be part of the history that detectives look into as part of the investigation.
The shooting happened as Indianapolis continues to see an increase in violent crime in the early part of 2023.
“It’s another family,” Foley said. “It’s another brother or sister, mother, father who are impacted by this and it’s important that members of our community step up. That we cooperate and work with each other.”
“Every one is too many,” Foley added. “The family members who are impacted by this violence tonight don’t care how many people across the city are being shot by violence. They care about what is happening to their family. “The neighbors here care about what happens to their neighbors. One is too many.”
