Pedestrian critically injured on 465 near US 31

INDIANAPOLIS — A man is in critical condition after he was hit by a truck on I-465 near U.S. 31 Tuesday morning.

The Indiana State Police said the crash happened at around 11:41 a.m. Tuesday. When troopers arrived, they reported finding a severly injured man laying on the ground. He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

An initial investigation indicates the man was driving a car westbound on I-465 near the 30.7 mile marker when he hit the median concrete wall. This disabled his vehicle.

State police said the man apparently got out of his vehicle and crossed the three lanes of westbound traffic on foot to the right shoulder. The crash happened when the man re-entered the right lane.

The semi-tractor trailer driver immediately stopped and stayed on the scene to speak with investigators.

The right two lanes of I-465 were closed for about two hours during the investigation.
