Casual for a Cause School-wide Philanthropy Program Donates to The Source

The School District of Indian River County holds a monthly program during the school calendar months that helps local organizations with donations raised by students at individual schools.

Schools offer names of local organizations they would like to raise funds for before the school year closes, and the names of those are then recorded for monthly ceremonies to deliver the donations once the new school year begins. As a means to instill philanthropy to our community’s youngest residents in K through High School, the students then make posters that hang in their school prior to the ceremony.  The prize at the end of the donation period is they can select one Monday of the assigned donation month to dress down in a casual manner for the day and then attend the ceremony the following month.

The Source for the poor and the homeless in Vero Beach was selected for the month of February and checks from 15 schools totaling in the amount of $2,406.35 were awarded to them at a School Board meeting held on Monday, March 13 attended by students, teachers and parents. Jonathan Orozco, Development Director of The Source was in attendance to receive the checks from Sara Milliman, Executive Assistant, Office of Communications, School District of Indian River County.
