Update: Lanes are reopened, and the travel delay is cleared as of 2:30 p.m. The outer lanes on state Route 8 southbound near Perkins Street are blocked due to a crash, as of 1:50 p.m. Oct. 6. There is a 28-minute travel delay going southbound, as of 1:53 p.m. The crash occurred earlier in the day Oct. 6 around 10 a.m. There were no injuries, just property damage, according to the crash report. As the Galion area is uniquely and increasingly tied to the northern expansion from Columbus, 1831Galion will continue to cover the possible connection between US23 and I71. The long-discussed highway connection now has a preferred route, a projected price tag, and a clearer picture of how much it could change travel across the region. The Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission have released the final U.S. 23/I-71 Connector Feasibility Study, recommending an 18.2-mile highway extending from U.S. 23 north of Waldo to I-71 south of State Route 521. The proposed route would also include an interchange with U.S. 42 north of Ashley.
