Former City Councilman, State Representative Carl Crane dead at 84
BATON ROUGE - Former city council member and state representative Carl Crane passed away at age 84, according to an obituary released by the Advocate. Crane was a Ponchatoula native and a Baton Rouge resident. He served on the city council from 1977 to 1982 when he was elected to serve as a state representative.
Local teacher selected to expore ocean aboard Nautilus
Dennis “DJ” Pevey, from Ponchatoula High School, is headed to sail aboard the Ocean Exploration Trust's exploration vessel Nautilus. He will be a 2024 Lead Science Communication Fellow this fall when the Nautilus is part of a deep ocean exploration team and brings the excitement of exploration to learners in South Louisiana and worldwide.

It was a storybook ending for Ponchatoula softball senior Sydni Stanga in a Division I nonselect quarterfinals against No. 12 East Ascension on Saturday at home. Stanga, a pitcher and second baseman, stepped to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning with the No. 4 Green Wave team trailing the Spartans 12-10. She crushed a ball on a 2-2 count for an opposite field grand slam to the right-center field gap for a 14-12 win.

Hammond man killed after woman runs red light, crashes into vehicle
HAMMOND - A man died in a hospital on Monday afternoon following a crash along US 190 in Tangipahoa Parish. State Police said 45-year-old Eric Cook of Hammond was headed north when he pulled up to the traffic light at US 190 and South Baptist Road around 5:15 p.m. Cook had a green light and went through the intersection.
