Late couple made significant contribution to Liberty Theatre
Petra and Michael Mathers, an Astoria couple who were active in the arts, left $250,000 to the Liberty Theatre after their deaths in February. The Astoria theater described the bequest as transformative and said it would play a crucial role in enhancing programming.
Cycling event and health fair set for Barbey Maritime Center
Columbia Memorial Hospital is partnering with the American Lung Association for a Reach the Beach Oregon Cycle for Air event on Saturday. Cyclists will travel from Sauvie Island to the Barbey Maritime Center on Marine Drive, in Astoria where there is a Clear the Air for lung health fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Grant to support Spanish language collection at Astoria Library
A grant from the Roundhouse Foundation will supply a new collection of Spanish language books in the Astoria Library. “We are excited about the opportunity to better serve our Latinx community,” Suzanne Harold, the library director, said in a statement. “We encourage everyone in Astoria to visit the library and see all the resources we offer.”

Seaside boys golf gains valuable experience at state
Seaside High School boys golf capped off their season with a sixth-place finish in the 4A State Championships. The trip to Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell was the first for this current crop of golfers. The young Seagulls gained valuable experience throughout the two-day event, finishing with the fifth-lowest score each day. The total score of 707 was behind Marist Catholic (659), Baker/Powder Valley (663), North Bend (703), Scappoose (703) and Cascade (707).
Plant sale set for Saturday
The Clatsop Soil & Water Conservation District is holding its 12th annual Native Plant Sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday in the parking lot at the Netel Grange. The sale includes a wide variety of native and edible plants and a variety of pollinator plants. The plants are provided by the Watershed Garden Works nursery. A portion of the sales will be donated to support district operations.
