HYATTSVILLE, Md. — Hyattsville Police say a man is in custody after allegedly shooting two people and trying to carjack them Saturday afternoon.
The initial investigation reveals that the suspect crashed a vehicle in the 3900 block of Hamilton, which had been previously reported stolen in a carjacking, before attempting two more carjackings in Driskell Park and 36th Avenue.
Police say two victims were shot during separate carjacking incidents.
The third carjacking victim at 36th Street and Farragut Street struggled with the suspect, which resulted in both of them being shot. Hyattsville Police officers took the suspect into custody.
Both the victim and the suspect were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The two are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The victim at Driskell Park is being treated for serious injuries and is in stable condition.
Hyattsville Police Detectives will arrest and charge the suspect for both incidents at 36th Avenue and Farragut Street once they have been released from the hospital.
Maryland-National Capital Park Police from Prince George's County Division is handling the investigation at Driskell Park. While Hyattsville Police Department will handle both incidents at 36th Avenue and Farragut Street.
The investigation into these incidents is active and ongoing.
