Security guard killed, 2 customers wounded in shooting outside Prince George’s Co. nightclub

Police in Prince George’s County, Maryland, say they are looking for at least two suspects in a Tuesday morning shooting outside a nightclub that left a security guard dead and two other people wounded.

During a news conference Tuesday afternoon, Prince George’s County Police Chief Malik Aziz identified the man who was killed as 28-year-old Alex Lynch, of Landover, Maryland, and said a $25,000 reward is being offered for information.

The shooting happened about 12:40 a.m. Tuesday at the Area Code Gentlemen’s Club, formerly known as Mustangs, on Chillum Road in the unincorporated area of Hyattsville.

The police chief said Lynch was working as an unarmed security guard outside the business when at least two suspects opened fire outside.

Lynch was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Two people who were inside the club — a man a woman — were both wounded by the gunfire, although their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. Aziz identified both of them as customers of the club.

They were both taken to the hospital in stable condition.

“We can’t say as of now, if this was a targeted shooting … But our detectives are working through that information right now,” Aziz said.

Police believe the shooting involved at least two suspects, but Aziz said he could not rule out the possibility of more.

Regarding the location of the shooting, Aziz said there hadn’t been an unusual number of calls for police service from that club before the shooting. “We haven’t had any type of complaints come to us,” he said.

Police originally said that four people were shot, but later said that one of the victims was injured in an “unrelated incident.”

Aziz said anyone with information should call detectives at (301) 516-2512.

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and indictment.
