Air quality alerts for parts of Alabama on Friday

What is a Code Orange air quality alert? It means that the air could be unhealthy for some sensitive groups. There will be air quality alerts in place on Friday for parts of Alabama thanks to expected elevated ozone levels. The general public is not expected to be affected.

The air quality is forecast to be less than optimal for parts of Alabama on Friday.

Air quality alerts have been issued for Madison, Morgan, Jefferson, Shelby and Mobile counties for Friday.

The Alabama Department of Environmental Management issued an Air Quality Alert for the Huntsville and Decatur areas. And it issued a Code Orange air quality alert for Jefferson and Shelby counties. Mobile and Baldwin counties will also be under a Code Orange alert for Friday.

The air quality alerts mean that ground-level ozone concentrations are expected to reach levels that are unhealthy for sensitive groups, according to ADEM.

Children and people with asthma are at the highest risk under these expected conditions. The general public is not expected to be affected.
