Hughesville, Pa. — Every year Hughesville becomes the hot spot in Lycoming County for the annual county fair.

On Wednesday afternoon, President of the Lycoming County Fair, James “Rocky” Reed, highlighted three brand-new events that will be available to patrons of the fair.

One of the most anticipated events for this year is something that the fair has not seen in a few years: the Rodeo. The Rodeo will have 20 bull riders coming to Hughesville for the fair. One of the bull riders, Jason “Buckshot” Bergey explained that there will be bull riding and barrel racing hosted by the Rodeo throughout fair week this year.

There will also be a Draft Horse Show by Varner Farms. The show involves teams of horses and they compete to see which team is able to pull the most weight. According to Rob Varner, owner of Varner Farms, this year’s event will be invite-only and held on July 13th at 4 p.m. Varner said that if turn out for the Draft Horse show is high, the public shows will make a return in 2025. Alongside the Draft Horse Show, Varner Farms will be offering wagon rides with people movers that can hold 20 to 25 people.

In addition to the Rodeo and Draft Horse Show, the Hughesville High School Theater Club will be performing daily ten minute plays. Jesse Stryker, director of the theater club, discussed four different plays the students will be performing throughout the week: “The Bank Job," “Trip through Time,” “Alien Halloween,” and “Oz’s Dilemma.” a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz.”

Reed highlighted that this year, the fair’s entrance fee will be $4, and children under 12 years old are free with a paying adult. There are also plenty of free events at the fair, including free live music, pig races, the 4H dog show, multiple tractor pulls, animal exhibits, and the county-wide art show.

The dates for the 2024 Lycoming County Fair are July 10- 20. To learn more about specific dates and times for events, visit the fair’s website or go visit their Facebook .
