MIDLAND, Mich. - This week, Dow's Lauren VanSumeren signed her National Letter of Intent to join the women's basketball team at Calvin University. She says her conversations with Knights head coach Mark Christner were a big reason behind her decision. She also added that a lot of her teammates will be attending Grand Valley State, which is less than a half hour away from Calvin University.
Rise take down Orlando Valkyries in four sets
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — In a Pro Volleyball Federation match that could have significant playoff ramifications a few weeks from now, the Grand Rapids Rise defeated the Orlando Valkyries, 3-1, to remain in third place in the League standings. The Rise won inside Van Andel Arena by set scores of 25-14, 17-25, 25-20, 25-13. Grand Rapids had three players finish with double-digit kills in Emiliya Dimitrova (19, .274), Claire Chaussee (16, .239), and Erika Pritchard (19, .429). The Rise hit .272 as a team — third-highest attacking percentage of the season and first time over .250 since March 26 at the Vegas Thrill. The offense was powered by a stellar defensive showing. Grand Rapids picked up 78 digs for the team’s second most in a four-set match this season.
Rise fall apart in third set against league-leading Atlanta, losing in four sets
ATLANTA—It looked like the Grand Rapids Rise had the best team in the Pro Volleyball Federation on the ropes. However, they were not able to seal the deal, as a second-half push by the Atlanta Vibe led to them winning the match in four sets (25-23, 22-25, 22-25, 15-25).
