A school teacher has been arrested for allegedly "making out with an 11-year-old boy," leading to her fiance ending their engagement.

Madison Bergmann, 24, and Sam Hickman, were set to tie the knot in July this year, but a "heartbroken" Sam called off the wedding after Bergmann was suspended from her job at River Crest Elementary School in Hudson, Wisconsin.

It is believed that the parents of the student discovered text messages between Bergmann and their son.

Upon Bergmann's arrest, police reportedly found a folder labeled with the victim's name, containing handwritten notes detailing their kissing encounters.

Following these events, Bergmann's former fiance released a statement, with friends indicating that the wedding has been postponed "indefinitely".

A close friend of Sam's shared: "It's been indefinitely postponed. And it probably won't happen. Sam is really upset and heartbroken. He's embarrassed and p****d. He didn't deserve this. Everyone is p"""""d."

Another friend revealed that the decision to cancel the wedding, originally planned for July 27 this year, was mutual.

"It was more like, 'Well obviously it's not going to happen this summer.' Pretty much all that there is to say," the friend alleged when speaking to the New York Post. "He says it's fked up that she cheated with a little kid. He's really really hurt. Not talking too much about it, just like 'this is fked up'. He's still in shock."

Bergmann apparently got the child's phone number after being invited on a family holiday to Afton Alps in December last year. She and Sam got engaged in the same month, and had a wedding plan set for July.

The 24 year old teacher was subsequently placed on administrative leave and banned from contacting any district students, parents or staff. Parents were informed of her arrest by the Hudson School District on the same day she was charged with one count of first-degree sexual assault.

In her police interview, she told authorities that the victim's mother allegedly gave her the student's phone number after the family invited her to Afton Alps, a skiing resort, over winter break.

She was released on a $25,000 signature bond. Hudson School District officials said counselling professionals will be present to help students and staff members who might be struggling with the allegations.

A statement from the school stated: "Learning about a school staff member and alleged inappropriate conduct that breaches trust is deeply troubling for all of us. We understand the gravity of this situation and are committed to providing the necessary support for any child who may be impacted. We kindly request the school community to respect the privacy of Hudson students and their families and refrain from spreading rumours or speculation."
