HOWELL (WWJ) - Authorities are investigating the scene of a traffic crash in Livingston County involving a pedestrian early Thursday morning, state police confirmed.

Troopers said in an update to social media that members of their First District Post have closed down westbound I-96 at M-59 near Howell as they piece together what led to a car vs. pedestrian crash.

Drivers are being forced to exit the expressway to M-59. Michigan State Police warned that travelers should expect delays.

At this time, the condition of those involved in the crash are unknown. MSP said no further information available and asked drivers to avoid the area if able.

WWJ traffic reporter KT said drivers can exit early at Pinckeny Road or at Latson Road and take it north to M-59.

"That'll get you back on to I-96 westbound," KT advised.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WWJ LIVE for the latest updates.
