The Houston Texans Will Have the Best Offense in the NFL in 2024

After a spectacular year under rookie head coach DeMeco Ryans and offensive rookie of the year winner CJ Stroud, the Houston Texans have retooled their offense to become even better. CJ Stroud’s maturity from week one was a bright sight for the Texans and one of the many reasons why he led them to their first playoff appearance since 2019. This offseason was a very important one for the Texans, and they have done nothing but improve to a point where they will be the best offense in this upcoming NFL season.

Obviously, the biggest news of the offseason for the Texans was the acquisition of four time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs. The Bills finally moved on from Diggs and dealt him down south in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick. Diggs is coming off his sixth straight 1,000-yard season. Diggs caught eight touchdowns from Josh Allen last season and ranked seventh in the league in receptions and sixth in targets. Diggs adds to an already very experienced receiving group with Tank Dell and Nico Collins that helped Stroud blossom last year and immediately brings an elite wideout that can make plays at any given moment.

Another trade the Texans made was for Joe Mixon. Mixon was released then traded from the Bengals for a 2024 seventh-round pick. Mixon was a key piece of the Bengals’ march to the Super Bowl in 2021. Mixon, 27, is coming off a 1,034 yard season with nine touchdowns. Mixon was very productive and was a top 10 running back in terms of attempts and yards. While he is getting older, Mixon adds playoff experience and a very high motor back that will add a new presence to a Texans’ running game that ranked 21st in rushing yards per game last season.

Keeping it in house, the Texans still retain Nico Collins. Collins was a top 10 receiver in the league in yards and touchdowns and had his best year in his three-year career. 2023 third-round pick Tank Dell was explosive on all accounts before suffering a season ending leg injury in week 13. Dell’s elite speed and elusiveness gives Stroud a weapon in any range of the field on any down and distance. The Texans re-signed Dalton Schultz this offseason who ranked 12th out of all tight ends last year in targets (84) and yards (635), tied for seventh in touchdowns (five), and tied for 12th in receptions (59).

There’s a lot of good returning for the Texans and even more coming in. The Texans were a top 10 offense in the league last season and have only gotten better. While many are expecting the typical “sophomore slump” from Stroud, you can be certain that he’ll have an even better year this year if completely healthy for a full season. The leading offense won’t be led by Patrick Mahomes, Tua Tagovailoa, Lamar Jackson or anyone else, it’ll be led by CJ Stroud and the loaded core of talent around him.
