In 2019 the Annunziata family announced they were closing Umberto's Restaurant after 45 years of business. The Italian eatery was well-known for its affordable, homemade pasta dishes and friendly service.

N.Y. Lottery: Winner claims $1M prize in Mega Millions drawing with ticket bought in NYC
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A New York state lottery player has claimed a $1 million prize for matching the first five numbers in a Mega Millions drawing. Jesus Ramirez of Poughkeepsie, New York, matched the numbers for the Jan. 28 Mega Millions drawing to win a second prize worth $1 million, according to New York Lottery officials.

A kitten is safe because of a man's quick actions. After Joseph Logiudice witnessed a kitten being thrown from a car and driven over on Poughkeepsie's three-lane East-West Arterial, he stopped traffic to get the kitten into his car.
County, State and Town Officials Turn Out for Kent Animal Shelter Groundbreaking Ceremony
Town, County and State Officials showed support for Kent Animal Shelter's $4,300,000 building project at groundbreaking ceremony. The original kennel was built in 1968 and is currently being demolished. The isolation facility will house new rescues while they receive veterinary care before being introduced into the general population for adoption.

Green Chimneys will once again host its popular Birds of Prey Day on Sunday, June 2 at its Brewster campus, 400 Doansburg Road in Brewster. The farm and wildlife center, which is a licensed rescue and rehabilitation center, is home to 300 domesticated farm animals and wildlife, including 50 birds of prey. Students who attend Green Chimney School participate in the care, and sometimes rehabilitation, of these animals.
Kent Animal Shelter breaks ground for new kennel
Twenty years in the making, Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton is finally breaking ground on a new dog kennel and isolation facility on the 2.8-acre campus at 2259 River Road. The announcement was made at a press conference attended by local officials and Kent’s board of directors, staff and volunteers on May 24. A few adoptable dogs made an appearance as well.
