HONOLULU (KHON2) — At about 3:34 p.m. Honolulu Fire Department said they responded to a docked boat fire at Pier 36 where two people needed to be treated for fire-related injures.

A total of eight HFD units responded to the scene where they reportedly found no smoke or flames, but the patients were in need of medical attention.

HFD took care of the two people with burn injuries, until Emergency Medical Services arrived and patient care was transferred.

EMS added they were responding to what appeared to be an explosion on a fishing boat.

A total of five adult male patients were treated for multiple burn injures.

Of the five, two patients were transported to the hospital in critical condition, and the other three in serious condition.

The Department of Law Enforcement confirmed that five crew members were injured after the explosion aboard a long line fishing vessel was docked at Honolulu Harbor.

The explosion occurred while the men were working in the engine room of the “Kim Thu,” a long-line fishing vessel docked at Pier 36, Honolulu Harbor.
