Engine trouble forces emergency plane landing at Kapiolani Park

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A small plane has made an emergency landing at Kapiolani Park.

According to HFD, the call came in around 2:52 p.m. with the first unit arriving at the scene at 3:03 p.m.

Reports said the “aircraft encountered engine trouble and was unable to make it back to the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

HFD said the aircraft was able to land at Kapiolani Park safely and assistance was not needed.

One beachgoer witnessed the incident.

“All of a sudden I saw the plane. I actually thought I was seeing things,” explained witness Millie Dydasco. “The two people got out and just hugged each other, it was pretty scary.”

In addition to HFD, Honolulu Police and Honolulu Emergency Medical Services also responded to the scene.

Both HFD and EMS confirmed there were no injuries due to the incident.
